If a cargo ship's master voluntarily sacrafices the cargo, equipment or funds from the ship to save the voyage, then all parties involved in the venture (including all cargo owners) are required to make a proportional contribution to cover the costs incurred.
When General Average is declared by the ship's master the cargo would not be released until the cargo owners put up a cash bond or the cargo insurers put up a General Average guarantee.
Statistics show importers are involved in a General Average claim once every 8 years. General Average is covered under our all risks door to door international program. Carrier cargo insurance will not cover this event, hence third party insurance is a valuable assest to your moving package.
If General Average is declared for the vessel in which your goods are traveling, please contact Travel Guard immediately, so we can get all necessary forms and information to the underwriters. The quicker the guarantee can be process, the sooner your goods can be released.
